RdR’s mission statement is “Live Jesus.” So what does this mean? Jesus’ sacrificial death not only gave us the ability to enjoy eternal life in heaven, but his sacrifice also gave us the gift of an intimate, daily relationship with God the Father. This relationship begins by submitting to Jesus and acknowledging his sacrifice as the only way to a restored fellowship with God and eternal life. This intimacy with God grows richer and deeper through reading the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers as we continue to daily submit to God’s purposes for our life. Although we will never be perfect and sinless like Christ, as we study his teachings and ask for His will to be accomplished through us, we are changed. The old, selfish person fades further and further away, and we find ourselves thrilled to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ sharing the Gospel through God’s mighty Spirit.
Disciples that "live Jesus" will abound in faith, hope, love and truth. Therefore it is the goal of Rancho del Rey to emphasize:
Faith in Jesus alone (Hebrews 11:6)
Hope in Jesus amidst a dying world (Hebrews 6:19-20)
Jesus' unconditional love, which the world cannot offer (John 13:35)
Jesus' truths, which are changeless and eternal (John 14:6)
Our Doctrinal Statement
The scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired, infallible word of God, without error in their originals. They constitute the authority of the Christian Church and the Christian believer.
There is one eternal God revealed in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are equal in divine attributes but distinct in divine role.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth, was born of a virgin, and engaged in a ministry of healing, exorcisms, teaching and compassion. He suffered and died upon a cross and three days later rose from the dead. He appeared to his disciples and was seen by them. He then ascended into heaven where he now intercedes for his followers at the right hand of God. He will come to earth a second time to end world history as God's appointed judge and rule the universe.
The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father at Jesus' request to indwell, seal, empower and comfort the believer in Christ. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He is the power of the Christian Church and the evidence that we are God's children.
Humanity was created in the image of God but because we chose a life of sin that image has been marred beyond reconstruction except through the saving work of God. Apart from the saving work of God, humanity is doomed to hell and destruction as a consequence of our own sin.
Salvation is a free gift of God. Salvation comes through faith in Jesus alone by God's grace alone. There is nothing anyone can do to earn their salvation because salvation is not based on works. Righteousness before God is made available to humanity only through Jesus Christ and his finished work on the cross. When God saves us, he makes us His children--new creations in Christ that are saved from eternal separation from Him.
We believe that those who call themselves Christians must earnestly desire and pursue a life of holiness. Sanctification is a necessary part of the believers walk with Christ. Any person who says they are a Christian and walks in darkness is a liar.
We believe in the universal, true Church. Jesus Christ is the head of the Church. The true Church is made up of people who have been made alive through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who has thus become a member of the true church shall be welcome in the local church.
Baptism and communion are the right and privilege of any member of the true Church. They are not means of salvation but ordinances given to the church as signs and symbols of the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.
Marriage is an institution ordained by God between a man and a woman as a representation of Jesus' love for the Church.
Our Core Ministry Values
Servant/Leader – At RdR our goal is to serve the Lord and lead others to Jesus Christ. The greatest leaders are those who are willing to serve through listening, compassion, consideration, and authenticity. Philippians 2:2-11
Adult/Adult – At RdR we desire our people to speak, interact, and communicate with others in a manner consistent with adult to adult relationships. From the pulpit to the various ministries within RdR people should talk to others in a respectful and loving way without being condescending or Lording authority over one another. Ephesians 4:29
Authentic – At RdR we encourage our leaders and people to be authentic and transparent in their relationship with Jesus and others. God has blessed each person with a unique personality and gift(s), which we believe should be valued as they love, lead, minister, and share with others. Romans 12:3
Assume the Best – At RdR we believe in assuming the best about people in a general sense. Doctrinally we believe “all have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard” Rom. 3:23. However, in terms of relationships within the body of Christ we want people to assume the best about others in their personal interaction, communication, and ways of leading. James 4:11-12
Grace – At RdR we greatly value the grace we have been given in the person and Savior of Jesus Christ. Grace is undeserved kindness. Our desire is for RdR to exemplify and magnify grace in every situation. Brokenness should be met with grace. Repentance should be met with grace. Mistakes should be met with grace. Relationships should be covered and lived out with grace. Ephesians 2:8-9
